2016 appears to be the year of the Batman. This is especially true with the release of the first trailer for Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders.
Return of the Caped Crusaders stars Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar from the 1960’s live action Batman television show back in the roles of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman respectively. Apparently, all of the classic villains reunite in this film to vanquish the dynamic duo once and for all. Unfortunately, some of the cast members from the 60’s show, Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, and Burgess Mereditch specifically, have passed away and obviously can’t participate in this throwback to the television classic.
Unfortunate as it may be that many of the classic villains will be voiced by new actors, having West and Ward back in the Batman universe is amazing. This first trailer is fantastic as it highlights many of the campy aspects of the 60’s show that people love. It definitely maintains the look and feel of the show which is a huge plus.
With all of the dark and depressing Batman projects that have been released this year, it’s nice to see a different, yet classic, take on the character. With Return of the Caped Crusaders, we should be able to expect some amusing dialogue, over-the-top action, and, yes, plenty of BAM! SMACK! and POW!
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is slated for digital release on October 11th and DVD/Blu-Ray release on November 1st. Check out the first trailer and comment below.
