Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Teaser Released

The trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debuted today on Good Morning America and provides the first look at Disney’s plans to bulk up the Star Wars universe.

Rogue One is set before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and establishes the main conflict for the original film. It focuses on Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) as Jyn Erso; an aggressive rebel who is tasked to steal the plans for the creation of the Death Star. Of course, in the original Star Wars, the plans have already been stolen which enables Luke Skywalker to blow up the Death Star.

Surprisingly, or maybe not surprisingly, the trailer actually looked pretty good. There is a different tone to it than the continuing main story of the franchise. Rogue One appears to be a little more gritty and serious than some of the more family friendly bits of the other films. However, it is still very Star Wars and the trailer does well to remind us of that with the sounds of blasters, some Imperial walkers, a star destroyer, some classic costumed Stormtroopers, and a brief glimpse of the Death Star itself. Regardless, Rogue One will be a film to keep an eye on throughout the rest of the year.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is slated for release on December 16th, 2016. It stars Jones, the criminally underrated Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Forest Whitaker. Check out the trailer below.
