Solace Trailer Released

As we stated a while back in our Shut In trailer/preview, there’s always room for more quality thrillers. It looks like we could potentially get another one next month in Solace. The film is coming out on a loaded release date that includes Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, La La Land, and Collateral BeautySolace could definitely be the odd man out that week in terms of box office.

The film follows Agent Joe Merriweather played by Negan himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who seeks out help from psychic John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins) to hunt down a serial killer. There’s definitely a bit of a Silence of the Lambs vibe in the trailer. The difference obviously being that Hopkins isn’t a serial killer himself. He still serves as a useful resource in the hunt. It seems that Colin Farrell plays the antagonist of the film which is a solid choice. He has quietly been consistent in most of his recent roles and he does have quite a wide acting range.

Solace has had quite a troubled history. Principal photography on the film began in May 2013. It debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2015 but is finally getting its theatrical release next month. Originally, the script was written as a sequel to 1995’s Se7en but those plans were scrapped (probably for the best). Upon its festival debut, the film received ho-hum reviews but hopefully, with a whole year passing, the filmmakers were able to clean up a few missteps along the way. Although, Anthony Hopkins’ penchant for starring in subpar films does put a damper on expectations.

Nonetheless, Solace finally gets its theatrical release on December 16th. Check out the trailer and comment below.
