Leatherface Trailer Released

With the incessant reboots and remakes out there, it’s not hard to believe that another horror franchise is getting a new treatment. What is hard to believe is how many times the timeline of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has been toyed with over the years. Yet again, another installment is set for release this October in Leatherface.

The first thing that has to be addressed that it has been announced that this will be a prequel to the original 1974 film. While this is all fine and dandy, let’s talk about the Texas Chain Saw timeline. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 was released in 1986 and is a direct sequel to the original. In 1990, Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III was released and features a slew of new Sawyer family members than its predecessors. The same goes for Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation in 1994. In the mid-2000’s, a remake and a prequel to said remake were released in 2003 and 2006 respectively. Then, finally, Texas Chainsaw 3D premiered in 2013 and supposedly took place immediately after the events of the 1974 film with the Sawyers being killed off before jumping forward a few decades with Leatherface surviving.

So, it seems that none of the filmmakers could really cobble together a consistent franchise, let alone a consistent titling system. With Texas Chainsaw 3D quite possibly being the worst film in the entire series, it’s shocking that there’s even interest in a new film. The character of Leatherface is one of the most iconic slasher villains in the horror genre and it’s a shame that he has rarely been done justice. The good news for this new film is that it’s directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury. They’re most well known for the delightfully sadistic French film, Inside. The first trailer for Leatherface looks as if it will certainly feature plenty of gore as well. The film focuses on a teenage Leatherface as he escapes a mental institution with three other inmates and kidnaps a nurse. During their “road trip from Hell,” they’re hunted by a deranged lawman.

Prepare for the Texas Chain Saw timeline to become further convoluted when Leatherface is released on October 20th. Check out the red band trailer and comment below.
