Ugh. In more unnecessary horror news today, the first trailer for Jigsaw has dropped. Yep, that’s right. The eighth entry into the Saw franchise is on the way this Halloween.
After a seven year hiatus from the once yearly film series, do we really need another? I think most people can agree that the first Saw film was a unique horror experience. It was one of the best horror films in a long time when it was released back in 2003. Saw II and III were even pretty good for the most part. After that, the series just became a convoluted and uninteresting mess of a story. The traps became too complicated, the characters were all expendable, and they saved one of the worst kept secrets in film history for Saw: The Final Chapter.
This new film doesn’t look like it adds anything new to the story whatsoever. John Kramer AKA Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) has been dead for a decade but the bodies begin to pile up once again. All signs point to John which is seemingly impossible. In all honesty, that’s really all there is to say about the film so far other than the five people chained up in a room with buckets on their heads. That part of the trailer is reminiscent of Saw V which also boasts five people trapped with collars on their necks.
Lionsgate probably expects a lot of buzz from the trailer’s release but who can seriously be excited about another Saw film at this point? Speaking of which, they’re not even calling it Saw. It’s as if they’re embarrassed that they’ve made so many and this is supposed to be the start of something new.
Whether we like it or not, Jigsaw is coming to theaters on October 27th. Check out the first trailer and comment below.
