Batman: The Killing Joke Teaser Released

*UPDATED: New official trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke released*

After the disappointment of the Dark Knight’s recent big screen appearance, Batman fans rejoice at the emergence of the new trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke

DC Comics has been on a roll with their animated Batman films the past few years. Despite not getting the levels of hype that a film like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received, the DC Universe Animated Original Movies (as they’ve been dubbed) have been mostly well received by critics and fans alike. The reasoning for that could very well be that the animated features have tended to follow some of the most classic and fan-favorite Batman stories. Under the Red Hood, Year One, and The Dark Knight Returns have all been previously adapted from their original graphic novel counterparts. However, this summer will see the release of arguably the greatest Batman and Joker story arc ever told in Batman: The Killing Joke.

For those unfamiliar with The Killing Joke, both Jack Nicholson’s and Heath Ledger’s turns at The Joker were influenced by it but the complete story itself has never been transcribed to film. The plot sees the creation of The Joker as well as the kidnapping of Commissioner Gordon and Batman’s attempts to save his friend. Due to the source material being relatively short, the filmmakers have stated that they needed to add in new scenes to properly adapt the story to feature length. It has also been rumored that the film will be rated R thanks to the dark and disturbing nature of the book. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will be reprising their roles from Batman: The Animated Series as the Dark Knight and the Clown Prince of Crime respectively. Check out the extended teaser trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke below.
