We’ve praised Netflix’s original programming up and down here at Cinema Smack. So, as you can imagine, we’re about to do the same once again. On March 31st, their new film, The Discovery, will be released via the streaming service.
It seems as if Netflix has been pumping out new content at a ridiculous pace over the past year. On top of their highly successful television shows like House of Cards and their lesser known Marvel heroes, Netflix’s original films have been decent as well. While not all of their films are huge hits, films like Tallulah and ARQ have proven that the company can hang with big budget theatrical releases.
The Discovery is a science fiction film directed by Charlie McDowell. It stars Robert Redford as a man who discovers scientific proof of an afterlife. His son, played by Jason Segel, falls in love with a woman, played by Rooney Mara, who wants to find out more about the afterlife. The film also stars Riley Keough and Jesse Plemons.
As Netflix showed with ARQ, they can deliver on intriguing science fiction films. From the look of the second trailer, The Discovery looks like it should be able to do the same. With a solid cast, specifically Redford, this film will definitely be one to check out when it’s released at the end of March.
Again, The Discovery will be released on demand on Netflix on March 31st. Check out the trailer and comment below.
