When it comes to neo-Nazi and white supremacy dramas, American History X is the gold standard. This year also saw the release of Green Room which was a solid film in its own right. Come August, we may be treated to a deeper look into the world of white supremacy groups more than ever before with Imperium.
Whereas American History X focuses more on how a family is affected and Green Room more on a group of people being threatened, Imperium implies that it will spotlight the inner workings of a white supremacist group.
Daniel Radcliffe stars as an FBI agent sent into the lion’s den. He must adapt and conform to the group as he investigates a radical terrorist group. The trailer shows Radcliffe as he struggles to maintain his own ideals without arousing suspicion within the group. It relies on uneasiness and suspense to put viewers into the main character’s shoes.
Ever since the Harry Potter series ended, Daniel Radcliffe has starred in numerous unique films. As big of a star as he became, it’s admirable to see him take on some very different roles. While he could’ve maintained his star power, he has taken some chances in films like Horns, Swiss Army Man, and now Imperium. It will certainly be interesting to see how he handles the role of a neo-Nazi.
Imperium opens in theaters on August 19th. Check out the trailer and comment below.
