Director Alexandre Aja’s name isn’t brought up too often outside of the horror genre. It’s understandable that with graphic films like High Tension and the 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes, most people don’t know who Aja is. However, with his new film, The 9th Life of Louis Drax, Aja looks to branch out from his gory roots to the sub-genre of mystery/thrillers.
While horror has been his forte for the majority of his career, Aja definitely brings an added style to his work. His films are always a little off-kilter compared to most work out there today. With The 9th Life of Louis Drax, it appears to be no different. After a young boy suffers a should-be fatal fall that results in a coma, a psychologist, played by Jamie Dornan, tries to figure out how the accident happened while communicating with the boy subconsciously.
While apparently not a full blown horror film, Aja seems to have put his own stamp on the story by including a lot of suspense. As any good thriller, secrets, lies, and deceit are featured heavily in the trailer. There haven’t been a whole lot of upcoming thrillers that have stood out lately but The 9th Life of Louis Drax looks promising. Regardless, with Aja, you know that you’ll always get something original.
The 9th Life of Louis Drax comes out on September 2nd; a date loaded with film releases. Check out the trailer and comment below.
