Alright. So, this might be one of the weirdest and craziest things we’re going to see this year. Almost ten years after his positively received performance as himself in JCVD, Jean-Claude Van Damme will do so once again in Amazon Prime’s upcoming series, Jean-Claude Van Johnson.
Of course, Van Damme plays himself in what appears to be a much glorified take. The trailer shows him in a nice house with the “JCVD” logo adorning a bunch of items. By day, he poses as the martial artist/actor that he’s known for. Though, he’s actually an undercover assassin with the code name, “Jean-Claude Van Johnson.”
Obviously, this new series is not meant to be taken seriously. This is made perfectly clear as soon as we see Van Damme cruise out to get his morning paper on a Segway. On top of that, we get to see him in disguises as he tries to take down criminals while basically using movie stunts. For as dumb as the overall idea sounds, it’s also unbelievably intriguing. This is one of those things that could turn out awesome because of how ridiculous it is. Just look at a show like Ash vs. Evil Dead for something in a similar vein. It’s so much fun that it doesn’t matter how over-the-top it can be.
