Logan Trailer Released

If there’s one thing that’s for sure about any films about the X-Men, it’s that nothing’s for sure. We’ve seen an original trilogy, a standalone film about Wolverine, a sequel to that film, and a prequel trilogy that sometimes references characters from the original. Yeah… Let that sink in. In 2017, Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as fan-favorite Wolverine for one last time in Logan. Just Logan.

This new film is directed by James Mangold who also helmed The Wolverine (the second film of the trilogy focused solely on the character). According to IMDb, it’s set in the future where Logan is aging and losing his healing abilities and Professor Charles Xavier (he’s still alive?) has Alzheimer’s. In a world with no remaining X-Men, they entrust the help of a young girl who’s a clone of Wolverine.

While all of this is well and good, 20th Century Fox really needs to ease up on the X-Men films. Continuity throughout the series can be thrown out the window at this point. Jackman has always been great as Wolverine but he has never had a truly standout film which is depressing for such an iconic character. It’s sad to see Jackman end his tenure yet it’s also somewhat refreshing. Hopefully 20th Century Fox will take the route Sony did with Spider-Man and let Marvel have a crack at developing a film based on the mutants.

As for the trailer itself, it looks interesting but it’s also very odd. There isn’t much about it that showcases the X-Men or Wolverine whatsoever. Supposedly it’s loosely based on the Old Man Logan storyline from the comics which appears to make sense. Whatever Logan ends up being, hopefully it’s a proper sendoff to the man who nearly single-handedly carried this confused and inconsistent franchise for ten films now.

Logan opens on March 3rd, 2017. The film stars Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Dafne Keen. Check out the trailer and comment below.
